Daler Rowney
Mountboard

What is a fillet or slip?

A fillet is a small moulding placed inside a frame or over a mount  to enhance the design of the finished piece. Fillets add a sensation of colour and texture to works of art because they are more dimensional than mounts and add drama and depth by helping the eye focus in on the artwork.

Fillet / Slip

White Core

Daler Rowney White Core board has a pure white core and offers a clean, crisp bevel cut. Each board is lignin free, alkaline sized, pH neutral and is calcium carbonate buffered to enhance its useful lifespan by minimising the effects of atmospheric pollutants.

Black Core

Daler Rowney Black Core board contains carbon black to create a deep black coloured core offering a distinctly different appearance.

Conservation Mountboard

A truly Professional Conservation board, which conforms to Fine Art Trade Guild requirements for Conservation (Level 2). The core is made from alpha cellulose fibres, featuring a soft natural white colour that remains white. Each board is alkaline sized, acid free and calcium carbonate buffered for enhanced durability and longevity. Being conservation quality, boards are lignin free with no optical brighteners. Cover papers are colour fast, resilient and bleed resistant. Manufactured in the UK.

What a mount can do for your art

The mount is a very important part of a frame design, it not only unifies the space between artwork and frame but also protects the artwork from a number of hazards.

As framers, our first concern is to present artwork at its best. We also know that sometimes a print, photograph, or similar type of paper-borne artwork can look “lost” in a frame without a mount. It can be difficult for the eye to move from the art image out to the solid, sturdy frame surrounding it. A mount provides a transition between these two worlds.

That’s also why mountboard colour, shape, and textures are important in a frame design. Everything from how light or dark the mountboard colour is; a double or triple mount; or a border with a specially cut opening affects how you see and react to the image in the frame.
